He was able to conquer both of them with only half of his full power. Half. At the same time. That's insane. Killing him doesn't even beat him, he just comes back later.

When you are fighting the ruler of either of the two places someone can go to when they die, I think you can die.

What if the said ruler has BANNED and BARRED one of the people from ever returning to either out of fear of him (i.e. Lobo)?

But when Luigi dies, he does to the Underwhere.

He's right, Merloo. If your guy needs half of his power to rule Heaven and Hell, how's he going to find the time to rule the Underwhere?

okay, clearly we need to combine our forces to convince merloo that we're better than whatever he posted. vidguy, you have an epic hair war with him, meanwhile, lobo can be shooting at him while the green thunder strikes like lightning, using his compensating-for-something spear as a lightning rod. then falcon can come in and punch him so hard it creates an explosion big enough to engulf thousands of stars.

What part of killing him doesn't cause him to lose? Plus, since he rules both places people go to when they die, he can merely call up other FF villains to help him fight. Let's see, now you have Seymour to deal with, who can only be killed by a Summoner, which none of your characters are, Kuja, who blows up planets for kicks and wiped out all of existence once, Ultimecia, who took control of all of existence almost, Sephiroth, who is Sephiroth, Kefka, who is Kefka, Exdeath, who has the entire power of the Void backing him up, Zemus, who when dead causes Zeromus to spawn, the Cloud of Darkness, who can't be killed without the crystals of light, Chaos, who is essentially immortal, and Li-Grim, who is the incarnation of all of humanities hopes and wishes. Only by wiping out all hopes and wishes can you kill her. Oh, and Promathia, a god. Only killed by another god.
Mateus wins. You need special equipment to take out some of them, and you can't actually kill some of them because they are merely incarnations of certain aspects of humanity, and were only beaten by said special equipment. Even so, the defeat wasn't permanent.
You get one immortal? I got 12.

alright, merloo, how's this: captain falcon punches open a rift in the space-time continuum, and out pour half a dozen sets of light warriors, the dark warriors, cecil and his orb thingy, rydia, cloud, and over nine ****ing thousand black mages. we win.

Actually, no. Void kills them all. Void kills everything. Mateus is a god, for all intents and purposes. While you fight the other FF villains, including the 8 immortal ones, Ultimecia completes TC, and compresses all of time, becoming another god. The other FF villains are spared, of course. In fact, look at this display of power. Power.

but then red mage comes in among the black mages. the combined force of OVER NINE THOUSAND hadokens overloads the void and causes exdeath to turn into a small halpless hamster that captain falcon falcon punches to the other end of the universe.
see? he didn't die, so you can't bring him back.
