Actually, bulbmin DID make a project called something around, "Enslave local Yoshis to get 25 extra coins per day". It was for Super Mushroom Kingdom Wars version...3, I believe. I know that he lost it when he switched armies, but I don't recall any god-mod topics getting thrown at it. If getting extra coins was as bad as you make it out to be, then I expect it would have been quickly detected.
Anyhow, my current COs aren't exactly weaker than normal, they're just not trained for combat whatsoever, and from all the battles I've heard of officers killing troops, I'd assume that other peoples' are. If I got, say, Sami or Jess they'd be combat-ready, but they're from Orange Star and Green Earth so it's unlikely that I'd ever pick them up.
Also, I'm pretty sure the only time I've bought anything tangible with coins was the Buddy Badges from vidguy...

You need to get more COs! Kanbei and Javier first.
Hey, but how is Sasha going to be different from Colin? Maybe Colin should just boost machine production while Sasha gains extra coins?

Well, now, I don't know...perhaps...uh...she'd gain surplus coins by fighting. Of course, it'd only matter in battles, but it'd be like her War Bonds power.
And, yes, Kanbei and Javier will be joining at some point. I guess I'll have to get COs from other continents just to keep the number of officers up.

Sounds combat ready to me. Besides, it doesn't matter how you've spent coins previously, it matters that you have them and can use them.

Here are all of the COs with weapons.
-Grit has a revolver. -Sami has a machine gun. -Jess carries around an artillery shell for some reason. -Kanbei has a sword, but it's decorative. -Javier mentions once or twice that he has a sword..."Mighty spire of communication, imbue my blade with stabby might!" -Hawk gives Jake a gun at the end of Dual Strike...I guess he has one, then... -Andy has a wrench. -Colin, Jess, and Grit have awesome trenchcoats.
Of those that are serious, it comes out to about four people with weapons. Right now, I have one of those. And about the money deal--You first said that bulbmin didn't do that, yet now you say it was found out and stopped, which leads me to believe that you're making it up. Also, you're making much too big of a deal out of this.

Why do coins even matter? I've never used them. The only real purpose is hiring mercs and maybe buying the odd machine. So if he wants to gain 25 extra per day (internal/external?) then I'm fine by that. It doesn't make or break how he'll/we'll play the game.

I'll repeat it:
Can we have our generals/captains do this too?

Ehhhhg... I honestly didn't like the idea of giving COs powers just because they're there. If people want to do a 30-Day Project to give one Officer a pre-approved power, then that's fine. I don't think that they should have a special effect on troops just because "it's cannon."

I'll repeat it: Can we have our generals/captains do this too? If one person can, then another should be able to as well. My army will be hindered in other ways, anyhow.

How often to Officers fight? I don't mean in Red's case, as he was dragged away, I mean as in charging out into battle?
That's right, almost never. Not being able to fight isn't a hindrance, as Officers rarely fight in the first place! And I don't see how making one non-combative person unable to fight and the entire Army's soldiers getting a boost balances out.
That's like saying 'Popple can't fight, but everytime troops hit an enemy they steal 10 Coins, and to balance it out they're a little weaker!' Or 'Patsy can't fight, but every troop has super-duper-alleyooper defense and to balance it out projectiles are less accurate.'
When people that were never intended to fight can balance out a lack of combat prowess with an Army-spanning boost for no other reason than 'it's cannon', that sounds like God-Modding to me.

The problem with your examples are these. 1) You made heavy Strawmen. I'm using Colin to get 25 more coins a day (It probably sounds worse to you since your last two SMKW groups have been about next to nothing but hoarding money) and Grit to make my troops have good accuracy. Advance Wars isn't even about troops, it's about the machines, so it won't even mean a whole lot. 2) Patsy is a representative. I don't even have one. I only have COs. >_>
And, like I said before, I'm not really going to upgrade my troops very much to stay canon.
Edit: And, just so you know, "Canon" is the context I'm using, being loyal to a franchise or legitimate, a cannon is, y'know, the weapon.
