Reasons why the Subspace Emissary was disappointing
Really quick, I'll just say that I'm not 100% done with it yet--I'm in the Great Maze. However, it seems to be almost finished, so I'll judge it based off of what I've seen.
Anyhow, first things first--Automatic screen scrolling. Why do we need this? It's random and uncalled for, and it's really easy to die because of it, as it makes you move at a specific pace which can sometimes be too fast. Also, if you get caught behind a wall in the back with an enemy, you can't see what's going on and will just have to jam on buttons in the hopes that you'll make it out. However, 99% of the time you'll die because of this.
Second--Enemies are overpowered. Playing a two-player game with my sister on Hard mode, we found R.O.B.s doing 24% damage with basic attacks. Other enemies are allowed to go on huge combos, racking up as much as 70% damage (Armknights, anyone?). If this is a Greap or another "Big" enemy, that can climb to 150%. Of course, since you get launched so easily, chances are you'll die around 100%, and I've even gotten blown away to death at 45%.
Third--Everything launches you. Everything. If a Mite jumps and kicks you in the shin, you'll get knocked back a little bit...or a lot. If you're fighting on the edge of the screen and have 40% or more, said Mite could kill you. That ain't right. What happened to the attacks that just hurt you, not blasted you? I understand that there are a small few enemies like that, but the damage they do is so much that it doesn't make a difference: They're overpowered either way.
Fourth--The game acts as if you're supposed to dodge the attacks that span half of the screen with no windup or warning, but let's face it, you can't. Greaps are allowed to just randomly do that horrible jump attack where they swing their scythes around over and over, and there's just about no warning. Almost all of the bosses are just like this: For example, Ridley will just shoot across the area or smash down on Captain Falcon's ship in under a second. Your only hope is to pull an air dodge or be lucky and happen to be in the air for the smash. Same with all of the other bosses. And, it's a little bit minor, but when you run it's like Yoshi's Island DS--You go to the far edge of the screen so it's extremely easy to blunder into an enemy, which will probably blow you to the other side of the screen and kill you 'cause they're overpowered (See above).
Fifth--Special attacks are extremely underpowered. I counted, and on Hard mode it takes four Yoshi eggs or four Samus super missiles to kill a basic Primid. A fully-charged blast from Samus' charge beam won't kill an ordinary R.O.B. Sentry. This means that you have to abuse your aerial moves and smash attacks. And Captain Olimar is one big special attack, so my favorite character was very underpowered, even with the mountain of stickers I pasted on him. Other specials were worthless, such as Kirby's inhale. Throwing Pikmin did next to nothing, as did Zero Suit Samus' grapple.
There may be a few others I didn't address, some small gripes, but this is the bulk of it. Overall, it felt like a bad NES sidescroller. I understand that they tried to make it challenging, but I think it was challenging in the wrong way. Nonetheless, the cinematics are amazing and parts of the Subspace Emissary are a lot of fun. King Dedede is hilarious. So, uh, that's it, I guess. Sorry about the rant.

I don't think you're expected to survive perfectly even through a level. Maybe you haven't gotten good enough stickers to survive on Hard Mode. The best way I got against the Emissary was to use a lot of weak but rapid attacks to stun them.
Anyways, I liked the Subspace Emissary's platforming but not the storyline.

Well, you're obviously expected to die some, but it's a little bit much, especially as there are two higher difficulties. The problem with the weak attack method is that the enemies will frequently get to attack while you're doing them and foil your chances.

Agreed with Dumple. I. HATE. THOSE. FREAKING. ICE. BALL. THINGS. HATE 'EM!Yeah, no kidding. They're a great example of how unbalanced the enemies can be--They'll freeze you, sit there, and then the second you get out they'll do it again. That happened to me four times in a row once.

Wait for intense. Primids, mites and spaaks(White mode) can kill you at 40% and regularly do about 20% a hit, not to mention they take forever to kill(But so many trophy stands are in intense). Also for Greaps Ikes Aether is godly.

That means Very Hard with one person will be just as bad if not worse, and Intense will be I-Wanna-Be-The-Guy level of difficulty, if you've ever heard of that game. I also found, playing my single-player game, that it really wasn't that much less damage. In addition, with a two-player game, you feed out of the same plate of lives, with no more than in a single-player game. Since bosses and enemies will likely thwomp both players at the same time, that's unbalanced as well.

yes, I have heard of IWBTG. I'm stuck on mother brain. >_>
EDIT: and it's supposed to be difficult. if you go to HARD difficulty, you can expect it to be HARD. go lower for your first run.

I found the entire Emissary to be fun. I just played it on Easy to get the characters, but I may play through on higher difficulties later. The game itself is great. Olimar is another character who I had heard little of before this game and that I enjoy playing greatly.

Oh, and you should get Pikmin or Pikmin 2 should you ever see them. They're rare, but worth it.

I might be able to borrow it from a friend. But I've always wanted them, Olimar though is just more fun than I thought.
