I'm not fan of them to be honest, and they always seem to slip and slide through the rules.
ARtifacts.
What if there was new class who specialised in Artifacts and magic, after all, the Death machine fans got a new class. Now artifacts are just drifting parrallell to rules and all classess are getting hold of them and obtaining power they shouldn't be. Perhaps now finally we can get some concrete rules on artifacts- their powers, limits etc.
Perhaps call them Mages, Monks, Druids, ah I don't know.
They can no War machines, and have say 20,000 troops.
Projects may include herblore for team-healing and even summoning like warlocks. I don't know , see what you think.
Perhaps finally we can lift the fog over the understanding of artifacts.

I like this idea, and the idea on artifact limits

I think that we should just try for a clearer understanding of Artifacts rather than devote an entire class to them.
Bandits can do what Merloo did and specialize in magic and Artifacts, but I think that making a class by itself would create problems, since we're always trying to downplay the importance of Artifacts in the game.

True, true. They were never in the rules. Damned Tubba Blubba and them Star rods. Banning them however would piss a few members off. I was thinking though a class would at least stop every tom, dick and harry and having them and abusing them, and if theirs outlined rules. Then the whole issue would be easier to police.

Well I like the idea for the new group, however I could do without it. What is nessicary is being specific with artifacts

I think we have too many classes for the number of players we have right now. Additionally, if we spread out, it'll just be harder and harder to keep the game balanced.

I tried coming up with a pretty balanced rule for Artifacts, to help fit in with their one-shot nature. It got turned down, a lot.

Let's hear it....I just want peace on this matter. We've shut up the Death Machine fans, so now lets try and silence the artifact spammers.

Merloo's the only one there is, as far as I can tell. We also came up with a way to make sure that he isn't a problem again, so I think we're covered there.

The plan is really, really simple. Artifacts just can't simply be used over and over. You need to let them recharge, like the long-range weapons from the first wars. The recharge time is the amount of days the Artifact is worth.
I tried coming up with a way so that people could use an Artifact sooner, but I think that's why so few people liked my idea to begin with.

Artifacts are generally used in once-a-battle attacks, so what's the point of having them recharge? No one goes to war twice in under 20 days, so they would be charged several times over before they go to battle again.

It's the only thing I can think of, and it's better than nothing. We could make it every OoG day, but that's a bit extreme. Perhaps every two days.

Well, I still don't see why we NEED a Rule about Artifacts; they've been around since the first version, and we've been using them (for the most part) the same way each time. Artifacts aren't meant to be special battle-winning items; they're meant to be stealable wild cards. You have to use proper timing to decide when the best moment to heal your troops are, or when to unleash a massive blast. Or, you can use them to perform less noticeable support roles like Merloo's sages and the Original X-Nauts did.
However, the constant danger is that they can be - and quite often are - stolen, so you have to be careful about bringing your Artifacts along for battles.
The point I'm trying to make is while they can't make or break a battle, they're definately useful ways to spice things up and make things interesting. The reason I love this game is because you can do anything you want within reason. There's no set list of things you can and can't do or make- your capabilities are as endless as your imagination. You could make a flying pig tank if you wanted to! Why not have special items?

I know. I see no reason to limit them, but people (WD and Rydon, primarily) feel they are too powerful. I don't want people to quit over something so ridiculous like that. I'm the only one that uses magic or Artifacts in mass, so I've never been sure why people care so much about them, but so be it. As I'm the one who has the most experience with Artifacts, I feel I should try and balance them.
And I use my Artifacts for both roles.

I don't think that having the most in this wars makes you the most experienced... We've all had Artifacts at one point or another.
But, back to the point, I think that Artifacts are balanced as they are now.
