Headbonk frowned as he looked at the radar screen in front of him. There appeared to be a large concentration of enemy troops outside Goom Town. “Something’s not right…” he muttered to himself. He turned to a nearby pair of Paragoombas and ordered them to investigate.
----
Peach watched on as her troops began the slow and difficult task of rebuilding her castle. Toads and Koopas worked together, shifting the rubble of Count Bleckian’s Castle off the ruins of Peach’s Castle. “Looks like we’ve got company.”
Peach spun around and saw that it was Koops talking to her. She looked to where he was pointing and saw a couple of Paragoombas watching them. The Paragoombas looked at each other, and then flew back towards Goom Town. “Do you think they bought it?” Peach said in a questioning tone of voice.
“I hope so…” said Koops. “Now, where’d I put that Crystal Shell? Ah, here we go…”
----
“Headbonk! Are you there!?” came a voice over Headbonk’s walkie-talkie. Headbonk nearly jumped out of his skin. He held the walkie-talkie up to his ear.
“Headbonk here. Is that you, boss?”
“Yes!” came the voice of Sharptooth. He sounded rather urgent. “There’s something wrong with the Shadow Rod!”
“Something wrong?”
“Yes, it’s… I don’t know, it just seems to be losing power. The barrier is fading - I think we might be under attack!”
Headbonk frowned. “Sir, I just checked the radar, and the only troops nearby are those that are repairing Peach’s C-OHSHI-“
----
“How’s it goin’, Tony?” said a Grand Goomba as he walked up to one of the Goombas guarding the gate to Peach’s Castle.
“Eh, not bad <insert-generic-mobster-name-here>.” Tony replied. “You here to relieve me?”
“Yeah, I’m on guard duty now.” The Grand Goomba replied.
“Great. I got me a date with some spaghetti.” Said Tony, grinning.
“Well, you have fun wi-“
Suddenly. Both Goombas were blown backwards as the gate to Peach’s Castle exploded inwards. Dazed, Tony forced himself to his feet. He saw <insert-generic-mobster-name-here> lying on the ground with a shard of metal sticking in his skull. Looking up at where the gate once stood, he saw a glowing figure made out of a mysterious blue metal. “Woah…” said Tony, looking at his fellow guard’s dead body. “That was lucky.”
YES. YOUR FRIEND DID HAVE A RATHER FORTUNATE ESCAPE.
“My fr-oh…” said Tony in a small voice as a realization dawned upon him. It was his body lying dead on the ground. He turned to the cloaked figure standing beside him. “So you must be…”
INDEED.
“And I’m…”
VERY, VERY DEAD, I’M AFRAID.
“Did… Did it hurt?”
I ASSURE YOU, YOUR DEATH WAS FAST AND PAINLESS. THE METAL PASSED INTO YOUR BRAIN AND YOU WERE KILLED INSTANTLY.
“Oh… That’s… Good. I would hate to have thought I had had a painful death.” Said Tony. Everything seemed so… strange. He watched as an army flooded through the gateway, led by a princess, 4 ninja Koopas, the strange blue thing and a floating cube. The few surprised Goombas nearby were quickly killed.
NOW, IF YOU WOULD KINDLY COME WITH ME. I DO HAVE A SCHEDULE TO KEEP UP WITH, AND IT LOOKS LIKE IT’S GOING TO BE ANOTHER ONE OF THOSE DAYS…

Quick update, don’t have much more time. This is just to set the scene for the battle.
